hi.. i want to know if an engineer graduate is eligible for the Masters in Design course? Im really confused because some places it mentioned as a criteria and some places its not. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Application Form Available                                                        : 20th November, 2009 to 5th January, 2010

Last date of Submission of Application Form                         : 9th January, 2010

Written Entrance Examination                                                   : 21st February, 2010

Declaration of Written Examination Result                              : 1st Week of April, 2010

Situation Test / GD / Interviews                                                  : April - May, 2010

Declaration of Final Results
Bachelor Programmes                                                                : Mid of May, 2010

Declaration of Final Results
Master Programmes                                                                    : Mid of June, 2010

 

Prospectus along with Application Form can be obtained from the selected branches of Axis
Bank across India on payment of Rs.250/- or by post enclosing a DD of Rs.350/- in favour of NIFT, New Delhi from all NIFT Centres.

M.Des (Master of Design)

B.Sc. (Textiles & Clothing)

or

Bachelor in Applied Arts (Fashion Design / Visual Communication / Graphic Design / Industrial Design / Interior Design / Multimedia Design / Product Design / Textiles & Accessories

or

B.Arch.

or

Design Diploma / Degree from NIFT / NID / International University of repute

Candidates having additional industry experience in the relevant fields would be preferred

M.Des (Master of Design)

The candidates applying for this programme will be administered with General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability Test (CAT) for the written entrance examination.

GENERAL ABILITY TEST (GAT): This test will comprise of various sub-tests as given below :

1) Quantitative Ability

2) Communication Ability

3) English Comprehension

4) Analytical Ability

5) General Knowledge and Current Affairs

1) Quantitative Ability: This sub-test is designed to test the quantitative ability of the candidates. The sub-test consists of questions on Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion, and Distance.

2) Communication Ability: This sub-test is aimed at testing the language ability of the candidates in day to day communication in English. It includes questions on synonyms, antonyms, words with corresponding meanings, singular, plural, one word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct spellings, etc.

3) English Comprehension: This sub-test is aimed to test one’s ability to comprehend a situation from a given passage.

4) Analytical Ability: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate's inference and logic from the given information.

5) General Knowledge and Current Affairs: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s general knowledge and current affairs.

CREATIVE ABILITY TEST (CAT): This test is administered to judge the intuition, power of observation, innovation in development of a concept by the candidate and its application through various skills. This test demonstrates the creative and innovative medium, skills and conceptual ability.

Short listed candidates from the written entrance examination are required to undergo Group Discussion (GD) and Interview.

Case Study based Group Discussions: Group Discussions would entail a discussion comprising of approximately 15 to 20 minutes of discussion on a case study given on which a panel of experts will assess the candidates on

the following parameters:

1) Conceptual clarity

2) Knowledge of the topic assigned

3) Contribution made on the topic to the group

4) Interpersonal skills

5) Ability to generate new ideas

6) Problem solving approach

7) Leadership qualities

8) Effective communication

Personal Interview: A candidate is judged on the various parameters as listed below:

1) Career orientation

2) Aptness for the field

3) Overall personal achievements in academics and co-curricular activities

4) Communication

5) General awareness and aptitude, creative and lateral thinking are likely to be useful.

last year they took the students from any discipline but they had a lot of problems as it is advanced design discipline. There is a way of getting into the design course by joining a 1year design diploma at NIFT and then applying the next year.
