Use concept of family of circles.x^2+(y-3)^2+kx=0 is the equation for the family of circles touching y-axis at (0,3).now this circle has intercept of length 8 on x-axis.in general notation this is sqrt(g^2-c)=8.g=k/2,c=9

actually sourav you are incorrect.

the formula for the intercept is

2*sqrt[g^2 - c].

not sqrt[g^2 - c].
