The National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, has invited applications for a national-level design aptitude test to be held on January 7 and 8 for admission to two programmes.

Eligibility:
Graduate diploma programme in design: Those who have passed or will appear for the Plus Two or equivalent examinations during the academic year 2011-12 are eligible to apply for the test. The upper age limit of 20 is relaxed by three years for reserved categories as on June 1, 2012.
Postgraduate diploma programme in design: Those who have a degree or diploma in design or those appearing for the qualifying examination during the academic year 2011-12 are eligible to apply for the design aptitude test for the postgraduate programme on January 8. The upper age limit is 30 relaxed by three years for reserved categories as on June 1, 2012.

The four-year, full-time course is offered in
product design,
furniture and interior design,
ceramic and glass design,
graphic design,
animation film design,
film and video communication,
exhibition (spatial) design,
and textile design.
The discipline will be allotted based on performance at the end of the first-year foundation programme. The aptitude test will be held on January 7.
Postgraduate diploma programme in design:
The programme, running for two and a half years, is offered on three campuses.
Ahmedabad:
Product design (15 seats);
furniture and interior design (15);
ceramic and glass design (10);
graphic design (15);
animation film design (15);
film and video communication (15);
textile design (15).
Gandhi Nagar:
transportation and automobile design (15);
toy and game design (10);
photography design (15);
apparel design (15);

Information and interface design (15);

design for retail experience (15).
NOTE: Send a separate application form for each of the two disciplines one can apply.
Test Centers:
The tests will be held in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Nagpur.
Selection Process:
Admission is on the basis of NID’s method of selection, which extends beyond the students previous academic qualifications. The NID Admission Committee systematically seeks evidence of the perception, attitude, aptitude, achievement and motivation essential for a challenging and satisfying design career. The objective of the tests and the interviews is to ascertain the above qualities.
Design Aptitude Test (DAT) shall be conducted at various centres. Based on the scores obtained in these tests, candidates will be shortlisted and called for the second phase.
The second phase of the admission procedure will consist of studio tests followed by personal interviews at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Gandhinagar. which completes the process of selection.
How to Apply:
For General Candidates:
Admission 2012-13 application form download will be available from October 13,2011. Note that this procedure is NOT available for reserved category applicants. Forms can also be obtained from select branches of Bank of India (listed on the right) on payment of Rs.1,500/- towards the cost of the form plus Rs. 50/-as bank charges from October 13,2011.
B) For Reserved Category:
Forms at concessional rates to reserved categories are available only from Admissions Office, NID, Ahmedabad from October 13,2011. These forms can be obtained from Admissions Office directly by sending a Demand Draft drawn on any nationalized bank in favour of ‘National Institute of Design’ payable at Ahmedabad for Rs. 750/-. The applicant should also send in an attested copy of the relevant certificate from competent authority and a self addressed envelope of 9” x 12” size with Rs. 40/- stamps affixed. The envelope should be marked with ‘NID ADMISSIONS 2012’.
