After a sixth months playing football for the New England Patriots, chronic pain from injuries caused Larry Anam to retire,
and become a personal trainer. “Because I deal with chronic pain, I can identify with people who struggle through chronic issues
and overcoming them. That's why I became a trainer--I can use my athletic background to design training tailored specifically
to the individual and help them achieve their goals.”
Anam opened Waju Fitness after ten years working as a personal trainer, and notes
“My business is growing, and if you're as lucky as I am, it's really difficult trying to keep up with demand.”

One of Anam's core values at his business is making sure his clients know how much he cares about them. “I think nowadays,” Anam says, “people try so hard to get new business they they don't focus on their old clients. I really care about mine.” Once Nift brings new clients through the door, Anam knows it's his job to make sure they keep coming back. To do that, he gives them an exceptional experience, and gives his clients Nift cards to say thank-you. “Just to say thank you, to give them a gift to another local business, they really appreciate that. It's an act of kindness.”
Nift is more than just new customers walking through the door. It's also what happens after that—those customers tell their friends, who tell their friends, and eventually the whole neighborhood knows about Waju Fitness.
One of Anam's favorite things about Nift is that it brings in local people, thereby getting the community involved in Waju. “Most of the clients who come in with Nift are from Newton—they're all local. You want people who can get to your gym easily, so they're likely to come back.”
“Every client I've gotten from Nift has been absolutely wonderful,” Anam says. Nift only brings Waju Fitness new customers who are already interested in training, meaning they're more likely to come back than the average person.
“Nift makes everything so easy,” Anam says. “The dashboard shows you everything you need to know about your customers, and it's so easy to redeem when customers come in. It's where you can see reviews from customers, and even respond to them,” he adds.
For Anam, Nift is about building the community around him as much as it's about getting new customers. “When people come in, there's usually someone else from Newton here, and they get to see each other. It's a great way to get people involved in the community,” he says. Plus, he knows that giving his clients a great experience in the studio is “the key” to his success. Giving them a chance to meet new people is one of the ways he shows he cares. “Some of my clients have been with me for ten years,” he says. And you don't get that type of loyalty unless you're a great business.
